Message from Excelsior Lodge Trustees – 8/11/2020

August 11, 2020

Aloha Brothers and Sisters,

I hope this message finds you and your Ohana staying healthy and safe, practicing social distancing, wearing your mask in public and staying home whenever possible.  These unfamiliar times will remain with us for an undetermined amount of time and until then we need to exercise patience, kindness, and resilience as we adapt to the new normal.

Since our last Lodge meeting on March 17th, there has been limited Lodge communications amongst our members, so I want to take this opportunity to update you on Trustee business.  Since going dark, your Trustees and Executive Officers have continued to meet during our regularly scheduled Tuesday meeting dates.  The Executive Officers continue to manage Lodge expenses while the Trustees continue to care for our Lodge assets.   Additionally, our Custodian, has been caring for the Lodge with weekly visits to clean and sanitize all of the utilized areas in the Lodge.

When we resume meetings at our Lodge Hall, you will notice a couple of changes straight away.  During this downtime we decided to replace the interior and exterior lighting, upgrading to LED fixtures to provide enhanced lighting and to leave a smaller carbon footprint on this planet.  Actually, we replaced the light fixtures to better see when the Past Grand takes a powernap.

Noble Grand Lau formed a COVID-19 Health & Safety Committee to establish planning and preparation protocols for reopening the Lodge.  The new Lodge layout allows for seating with a 6 foot distance between members, as you enter the Hall you will have your temperature taken with a touchless thermometer, and there are hand sanitizer dispensers at the entrances and exits and near the dining hall.  With the current State mandates and restrictions in place, opening the Lodge will not soon take place, but we stand ready.

The Laie property is undergoing a couple of minor repairs and improvements in hopes of reopening the property for member use, on a limited basis.  Unfortunately, we still do not have beach access as the wall appears to be worsening, but we are seeking alternative solutions and will keep you apprised of any developments.

For now, take care and be safe.

In Friendship, Love and Truth,

Excelsior Lodge No. 1 Trustees
